HN Firehose Privacy Policy

HN Firehose does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.

What leaves your phone

The app fetches stories from the Algolia Hacker News Search API. Like any web request, this exposes your IP address to Algolia. Nothing else is sent with it.

When you long-press a story to preview it, the app fetches that story's page to read its title and image. This request goes directly to the site the story links to, the same as opening it in a browser. Pages are never fetched while you scroll.

What stays with you

Your killfile (the list of sites and words you've chosen to hide) is stored in your own iCloud account so it syncs between your devices. It is not visible to the developer or anyone else. Without iCloud, it stays on your phone.

Adding a story to Safari Reading List, sharing a link, or opening it in Safari hands the link to iOS, which handles it under Apple's privacy policy.
